Peer Judicial Board

The Peer Judicial Board (PJB) hears all sides of an incident, decides on responsibility and assigns a sanction (if appropriate) for all Level Two ResRules violations. The PJB consists of a Chair and Members at Large. All Level Two incidents will be investigated by a Residence Facilitator, and forwarded to the PJB. The Residence Facilitator will
gather information, including speaking to the student who is allegedly responsible for the offence, as well as any other student or staff member that may have knowledge of the incident.

If a student accepts responsibility for a Level Two violation when they meet with a Residence Facilitator, the case will be sent to the PJB. The PJB will ratify (sign off) that the student accepted responsibility and assign a sanction. If a student does not accept responsibility for a Level Two violation when they meet with a Residence Facilitator, a PJB hearing will be scheduled so the student can tell their side of the story to the PJB before a decision is made. If a student does not respond to Residence Facilitator meeting requests during the four day investigative period, the incident will be forwarded to the PJB and a hearing will be scheduled.

When the hearing is scheduled, the student will receive a “Notice to Initiate a Hearing” letter via email with the time, date, and location of the hearing. The letter will also include the ResRules violation, possible sanctions, the time, date, and place of the violation and a pamphlet outlining how the Peer Judicial Board is structured and how the hearing is to proceed.

All notices to students will be sent electronically to the student’s Queen’s e-mail account. All correspondence will be deemed to have been received and read five business days after delivery. The delivery date is defined by the date on the email message header.
