Appeals Process

Appeals

For detailed information about the appeals process, please consult the guide “Residence Rules & Regulations”.

Students have the right to appeal Level One Offences and Peer Judicial Board (PJB) Level Two decisions to an Appeals Committee. Level Three appeals are managed by the Coordinator of Resolution and Dispute Mechanisms at drm@queensu.ca . Level Three appeal cases will usually be heard by the University Student Appeal Board (USAB). All correspondence will be deemed to have been received and read five (5) business days after delivery by email. A Respondent has five (5) business days from date of the Letter of Responsibility to submit a formal written appeal.

The student may appeal only on the grounds of:

  • New evidence – e.g., evidence relevant to the decision made by the Board which was not available through reasonable diligence at the time of the initial Board hearing.
  • A substantial procedural irregularity in the consideration of a case.

Completed forms can be emailed to resrules@queensu.ca , or dropped off at Victoria Hall, Residence Life Office, room C110.

For more information about the appeals process, please contact the Residence Judicial Advisor by e-mail at resrules@queensu.ca or by phone at (613) 533-6000, ext. 78102.

Residence Life has structured the judicial process and our ResRules based on three principles.

  1.   ResRules are remedial in nature and are therefore designed to educate students on their responsibilities and the consequences of their actions.
  2.   The safety and security of every student is the responsibility of everyone in the residence community.
  3.   Residence is a community that values mutual respect of the rights, responsibilities, dignity, well-being and academic pursuits of all members.
