Educational Programming in Residence
Residence Life offers intentional living and learning experiences that promote students’ overall well-being and support personal, social and intellectual growth and development.
We support our students with an awareness and understanding of their multiple and diverse social identities (race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, ability etc.). Our residence communities are guided by the principles of intentionality, authenticity, reflection, participation, inclusion, self-determination, collaboration and sustainability.
A few examples….
Photo Scavenger Hunt
A campus wide hunt that challenges each floor to seek out clues and provide a photo of the group at each task. A great way to get to know the campus and your floor-mates!
Study Smarter, Not Harder and Pizza
Success in university is all about time management. Learn how to make the most of your study time from peer learning assistants as they cover effective study techniques, learning styles, and where, when, and how to study.
Yoga in Residence
Learn how to actively manage the stress of university life with yoga classes held in residence buildings
Feed the Worms
Worms are the only pets in residence and they have to earn their keep through vermicomposting. Get together with your floor to set up a vermicomposter and learn more about sustainable living.
Community Service Learning
Contribute to a community organization while learning and sharing. A great opportunity to get to know faculty members, leaders in the community, and other students.
Sexperts and Candy
Peer teams lead this fun session about safe sex, abstinence, STIs, healthy relationships, consent, sexual stigmas, and on-campus resources. Candy and chocolate are also on the menu.
Residence Life focuses on four developmental areas to guide our intentional living and learning experiences:
Personal & Social – helping students develop greater self awareness and opportunities to relate to others
Community – helping students understand personal and social identities, and their responsibility to their community
Intellectual - helping student develop critical thinking and problem solving skills
Health & Wellness – helping students achieve balance in all areas of their lives
