Preparing Your Computer

What to do before you come to campus:

  • For PCs, apply all Windows Critical Updates just before leaving home through “Windows Update” so that your updates are current when you arrive
  • Ensure that your antivirus software is current.  If you don’t have antivirus software, use IDA (see below) to download and install Symantec Endpoint (available at no cost  while you attend Queen’s).    Current antivirus software is required to register your computer on ResNet, our Residence Network.
  • Ensure that your Net ID Activation is done.  You need an active Net ID and password to register your computer on ResNet, and to access many Queen’s computer services.  Don’t forget your Net ID and password!
  • Download and install IDA ( ITServices Desktop Assistant). You will require your Net ID and password to do this.
