New Residence Construction
Queen’s Housing & Hospitality is excited to announce construction of two new residences on campus–one located on Leonard Field and the other at the corner of Albert and Stuart streets.
As with all construction projects, we expect that there will be some noise during daytime hours (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.), however we will be doing our best to minimize disruption and to keep you informed throughout the process.
We ask that you use caution around the works sites to protect yourself and others. Please follow directions on signage and stay out of closed areas.

To honour their many years of service to Queen’s, two new residence buildings will be named for former principal David Chadwick Smith and Drs. Marlene Brant Castellano and Clare Clifton Brant. The residences will be named David C. Smith House and Brant House.read more
The majority of the outdoor work on the new residences is completed and crews have moved to the insides of the new residence buildings. Some work is still taking place on the exterior of the buildings such as masonry work and roofing. As a result, forklifts and small equipment is still being used, as well smells of asphalt may be experienced. Please exercise caution when approaching and travelling around the construction sites.read more
Construction hours for Queen’s new residences will be 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the duration of the exam period.read more
Please be aware that Lower Albert Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, October 28th. Also, please be advised that there will be intermittent lane closures on Stuart Street throughout the week. Sidewalks have been re-instated for Gord-Brockington and Morris Hall and the site fencing has been re-established in these areas.read more
A summary of residences construction activity from October 6 – 10. • There will be no scheduled road closures this week, but driving lanes will be closed intermittently for deliveries and flagmen will direct traffic accordingly. • Concrete sidewalks in front of McNeill House have been completed and sidewalks in front of Gordon and Brockington Houses will be completed this week. • The new communications line will be extended into Morris Hall, which will affect the Albert Street entrances. Construction crews are working to reinstate the concrete sidewalks in front of McNeill House, Morris Hall and Gordon-Brockington House, resulting in some pedestrian detours. For your safety, please follow detour and construction signage, and do not trespass on the construction site. Thank you for your understanding.read more
Several individuals have recently been seen illegally entering the construction area where our new residences are being built. Security teams are patrolling the area 24 hours/day and security cameras are also running 24/7. The contractor will call police and formally lay charges against anyone caught trespassing on the premises or identified as trespassing though video footage. For your safety and the safety of others, please stay out of prohibited areas and obey all no trespassing signs.read more
Construction of the our new residence buildings has been progressing quite well. Crews are currently pouring concrete for floor slabs, walls and columns at both sites. They will also be digging in front of McNeill House in preparation for electrical, steam and sewer activities.read more
Due to inclement weather, the work on the covered walkway has been postponed. The covered walkway is expected to be completed by early next week.read more
